Associate Director, IT R&D Informatics

Location: Cambridge, MA


The Associate Director of IT R&D Informatics reports to the Executive Director of IT and is responsible for the maintenance, security and enhancement of Kronos Bio’s R&D systems.  This position develops and executes or leads a team in the development and execution of implementation of and improvements to R&D systems.  The role provides technical direction and skills for the development, design and deployment of multiple systems.


  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of Kronos Bio’s technology, including ELN, CDS, Laboratory instruments, and the interrelation of these systems.
  • Managing resources (including staff, consultants and external partners) to further technical requirements of IT projects and initiatives.
  • Recognizing system deficiencies and implementing effective solutions including extending existing technologies and researching and procuring new technologies.
  • Building trusted relationships internally and externally.
  • Supervising, managing, and otherwise leading R&D systems and support staff and consultants, helping that staff achieve their highest potential at technical support and system alignment to business process.
  • Serving as the final escalation point for R&D systems and end user requests, providing Level III system support.
  • Occasionally performing system maintenance and providing technical support after typical business hours in order to maintain system availability and to achieve schedule demands.
  • Interacting with business leaders to understand their needs and concerns related to systems and translating those discussions into system improvements.
  • Providing insight into new technologies that focus on supporting business requirements and coordinating the procurement and configuration of those technologies.
  • Establishing trusted partnerships with vendors that play a vital role in supporting the Business Unit and fostering new relationships when relevant opportunities arise.
  • Enforcing compliance with all established IT standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with executive staff under high pressure situations.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise-class R&D applications including: ELN, compound registration, data aggregation & analysis, etc.
  • Experience in streamlining R&D application workflows for scientific data collection and analysis.
  • Strong analysis capabilities and skills in structured problem solving.
  • Strong program and service delivery skills.
  • Deep sense of urgency and ability to identify and achieve quick wins.
  • Ability to quickly learn new subject matter areas, assess operational maturity, establish KPI’s and metrics and drive towards operational maturity.
  • Strong communications and collaboration skills across.


  • BA/BS or equivalent degree in scientific discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of laboratory science and operations experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology
  • Minimum 5 years of IT R&D Informatics experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology
  • Experience in interactions with outside vendors, e.g., CROs and other vendors
  • Advanced understanding of research workflows and ability to work effectively in a team/matrix environment
  • Management experience is required
