Translational Development Lead

Location: Cambridge, MA


Kronos Bio seeks a highly motivated Translational Biologist to join our Discovery and Clinical Development Teams as we advance innovative new drug candidates into the clinic. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and working closely with Discovery Biology, Pharmacology and Bioinformatics, the Translational Development Lead will be accountable for the development and implementation of target engagement and patient selection assays in Phase 1-2 clinical trials in cancer and possibly other serious conditions. As the founding member of the Translational Development function, the candidate is expected to be able to work collaboratively across Discovery and Clinical Development and to manage relationships with CROs and Academic collaborators.


  • Help to define efficacy drivers (target engagement threshold, context of target dependency) and pharmacodynamic biomarkers for Kronos drug compounds in relevant pre-clinical models working together with Pharmacology, Discovery Biology and Bioinformatics.
  • Work with the Clinical Development team to devise clinically tractable strategies to evaluate the effects of Kronos Development Candidates on their respective efficacy drivers in early stage clinical trials.
  • Identify and evaluate existing platforms or develop novel approaches as appropriate for target engagement and/or molecular classifier assessment in samples from clinical trial subjects.
  • Design kits and provide training to clinical site personnel on sample collection, processing and shipping.
  • Select and manage vendors for assay execution including technology transfer for custom in-house developed assays, data transfer specifications, sample tracking and compliance.
  • Collect, analyze and integrate assay data and present results to support dose escalation decisions during Phase 1 trial execution, at governance meetings and for external presentations and publications.
  • As the pipeline grows, build a Translational Development function to support clinical trial.
  • Contribute to target identification and validation efforts and co-own target selection and prioritization decisions with Discovery.
  • Contribute to the writing of relevant documents including the IND, clinical protocol, informed consent form, laboratory manual, clinical study report and publications.


  • D., M.D., or M.D. Ph.D. with relevant experience in cancer biology, immunology, biochemistry or related fields with 10 years of industry experience including roles in translational support for IND filing and early stage clinical trials.
  • Deep and current knowledge of cancer biology, immuno-oncology, epigenetics, transcriptional regulation and/or protein homeostasis a plus.
  • Experience working within a cross-functional team on a clinical stage project, implementing biomarker assays in clinical trials.
  • Knowledge of regulatory aspects of clinical assay implementation a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
